Grunge continues its growth and dominance.
Notable New Bands And Artists: Alice In Chains Grunge band Alice In Chains made their first mark nationally in late 1990 largely thanks to MTV airing the video to Man In A Box as part of their daily current playlist. Unlike their Seattle counterparts Nirvana and Pearl Jam, Alice In Chains didn't see popularity with Modern Rock fans until they released the album Dirt in late 1992, with the tracks Them Bones and Angry Chair becoming hits on Modern Rock radio stations during 1992 and early 1993. Alice In Chains became an influential band in modern rock circles for the remainder of the decade, with lead singer Jerry Cantrell also producing solo hits later in the 1990's. |

Their style differed somewhat from that of their Seattle counterparts. It might best be described as a "wavy", raspy sound that fared well with Rock fans over the years. Pundits credit frontman Jerry Cantrell for developing their unique musical style. |
