Listed below is the chart showing the point system I used for the Radio Underground year·end countdowns covering the 1981 to 1984 years.
To explain better, say a song was ranked number 12 for one week. Based on the chart below, it earned 49 points for that week. If the song moved to, say, numnber 6 the following week, it earned 60 points for that week. The 60 points are added to the 49 points for the previous week for a total of 109 points. If the same song moved to number 4 the following week, it earned 66 points for that week, then, when added to the total, gave it 175 points for the year...and so on!
The "weight" of the points increased once a song ranked within the top 10, then increased more within the top 5, etc.
